Individual Assignment 04: Practice professional networking

To practice the building of your professional network, provide a critical discussion of a business or professional event you have attended outside class during the semester. The event can be happening on or off campus, and must be approved by the instructor. The discussion should be formatted as a blog post.

The discussion should be formatted as four substantive, and well-written paragraphs including:

  1. Paragraph 1: A brief introduction of the event, with a link to the event or speaker's webpage/LinkedIn page
  2. Paragraph 2: An important concept/idea you learned from the event, and how this concept/idea is discussed in the textbook. Cite the specific textbook chapter that serves as the basis of this discussion in APA style.
  3. Paragraph 3: An important concept/idea you learned from the event, and how this concept/idea is related to current business news or discussions. Cite the specific business news article in APA style. The article article must come from one of the approved sources below, and within the time frame of the current semester.
  4. Paragraph 4: Conclusions and reflections on what you have learned personally or professionally from the event, the textbook, and the business news literature.

You must discuss the article and the connection thoroughly and intellectually. You should also cite your source in APA style properly.

For help with APA style citation, please visit the library guide here, or a Chatham librarian in the library for assistance. The lack of proper citation may result in academic integrity violation.

As part of IA04 submission, you should also turn in an envelope with at least eight business cards you have collected over the semester, four of which must be from outside of Chatham. Please also include a copy of your own business card. Please put your name, BUS105, and the assignment name on the front of the envelope. Give the envelope to the instructor in class. (10%)

Business card templates and printing instructions are available on Chatham Business Insight here.

Submission
1. Please submit the URL link to each assignment that you posted on your Blog through the appropriate assignment submission link available in Moodle

2. Make sure your URL link works properly before submitting.

The correct URL link will show your chosen blog site name (e.g., "lauren-c-ia-blog" below) followed by "blogspot.com"
http://lauren-c-ia-blog.blogspot.com/2018/04/ia2.html

An incorrect URL link would begin with "blogger.com"
https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8858843223359902717#editor/target=p

3. Turn in your business card envelope to the instructor in class by the IA04 due date.

      Feedback
The instructor will post your grade in Moodle with the instructor’s comments. Pay attention to those comments and take them into consideration for future submissions. The expectation is that you improve the quality of your submissions with time.
